antagonist/curse
Big Bad named Jack of Nine Witches laid a curse on the PCs when they stopped his diabolical
plans. He cursed them to be harassed by evil fey. I described these fey
as small humanoids that moved super fast, quicker then the eye could
see. They where very weak though so they avoided fighting the PCs.
Instead they would grab the PCs food and replace it with rotten food and
spoil the players water. Later the PCs heard something crashing towards
them from the woods. One of the little fey appeared shouting "This is
yours" and tossed a small bear cub into the Dwarf's lap. He immediately
stood up, shouted run, and took off from the camp site with the rest of
the confused players following. The 1st level party had no intention of
fighting a mother bear I guess. Later I had the fey appear using a
magical drum that caused basically the same effect as Otto's
Irresistible Dance on everyone hearing it. One of my players that is
very new to rpgs pulled out the small trumpet/horn he wanted his fighter
to have from the start and tried to play over the drums to free the
PCs. I for some reason took pride in him thinking up with this plan and
he really started to come into his own in the game with creative
solutions. Later I had the fey helping some of the Witches that birthed
Lucky Jack. During the encounter they would grab pieces of the PC's
personal belongings and hair that the Witches used in voodoo dolls. The
Witches would make these dolls and hang them, toss them into the lake,
or throw them into the fire at the base of the cauldron. (All Witches
have a cauldron at all times) The players where running around
frantically trying to save their own voodoo dolls or fight the Witches.
For now the Gremlins have been scared off but I am trying to come up
with other ways to use them. The PCs are going to have to go after their
King to stop the curse and I am imagining a Labyrinth King of Gremlin
Kind David Bowie character. Maybe he will want their first born to call
it off...
